Ian -

Thanks for the comment.

I am of the opinion that there is a lot more to Twitter than just telling people where I am or what I had for lunch. Have a read of the Business West article linked here for more of my thoughts on this.

Re the LinkedIn connection - I did keep these separate for some time, particularly when the latest LinkedIn status stayed at the top of the profile. However, status updates now seem to age out fairly rapidly, so I linked my accounts.

I have found that attempting to put some sort of an dividing line down my life between "work" and "personal" is rather awkward and artificial. Even more so since I left a large corporation and went solo. (Even then, I was blogging for the company for a while, too.) I am personally interested in my work, and my work is about things I enjoy doing.

Yes, I do have different audiences on Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn, but what I do and who I am doesn't change in these arenas.

So I present myself in the same way in all of my social media. And I want to work with people who will take me for who I am, not for a limited, constrained persona. For this reason, I will continue to send my tweets to LinkedIn.

ReTweating Twitter to LinkedIn can have a negative impact.

Continually telling the world where you are, what you had for lunch etc demeans and indeed attacks your professional profile on LinkedIn

Other than resorting to Google - and the Defence archives - I am afraid that I can't offer you any advice on either of these!

Sharon -

Yes, we are related. Technically, we are third cousins once removed - or to perhaps put it more simply, Gwendoline was my father's second cousin. This means that you are a descendant of Thomas and Tabitha, the people described on this page - Thomas was your great-great-great-grandfather.

More info in an email on its way now...

Hi Keith, I think we may be related somewhere down the line. My grandmother was Gwendoline Yvonne De la Rue. She raised me as her daughter. My aunties were Jean, Beryl, Esma and Mavis and I believe there were 4 brothers also in the family. I believe that their parents were Henry and Grace.

I was wondering as all of these people have passed on and I come from a very shattered family if you have any information on when this side of the De la rues came to Australia, what connection and where in France they may have come from. I am particularly looking for where my grandmother may have lived in Brunswick as a child.

Thanks Sharon

Hello Keith,

I am trying to find information about Garnet Aitchison. Apart from finding he enlisted in the Australian Light Horse in 1914 and returning in 1918, I can find nothing.

Are you able to assist me in this quest?

Steve Connolly.

P.S. Anything on Old Mick Moore from Wandecla would be a bonus

Del -

You have me completely stumped on that one. I do know of some De La Rues in NSW, but I don't have any records of them in Richmond, and I have no Campions at all. Any further info on the De La Rue side may help.
